Description: Nicolas was, and is, one of the major wine dealers/distributors in France. Originally a caricaturist, Bernard began working exclusively as a designer for Paul Martial in 1927. At the time there was a group of graphic designers named "the Gang of Four" Paul Colin, Jean Carlu, Loupot, and A.M. Cassandre which dominated the poster scene. Francis Bernard, though not as well know, was considered the outside fifth member of this group. This two-sheet poster is Bernard's extremely unusual, and rare, image for the Parisian wine dealer. At the time, most of the company's posters depicted the famous deliveryman Nectar, created by Dransy. Here we get a stylized faceless figure - different but powerful. a great modernist image from the 30's. This is an original vintage poster. keywords: Wine, spirits, modern, large,
