Description: Magnificent engraving of the base and capital of various Roman columns by Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778), the greatest engraver of ancient ruins in Rome. Upon his death, sons Francesco and Piero took the copper printing plates to Paris and published magnificent editions of their father's work. Published in 1836, these editions are distinguished by rich ink impressions and heavy white French art paper, making them far superior to the originals. Unframed. Image, 19"H x 11.25"L.
