Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Courvoisier Cel of the Seven Dwarfs Walt Disney Studios 1937(232 views)
Description: This stunning setup is one of the best images of the Seven Dwarfs that I have seen in 25 years of collecting. Snow White premiered at the Carthay Circle Theatre on December 21, 1937, followed by a nationwide release on February 4, 1938. It was a critical and commercial success, and with international earnings of $8 million during its initial release it briefly assumed the record of highest grossing sound film at the time. The cels from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were released through Courvoisier Galleries, a gallery in San Francisco. All the pieces were initially prepared by Walt Disney Studios although other features were later prepared by Courvoisier. Many times, a woodgrain, watercolor, or airbrush background was created to be used in conjunction with a particular cel. These have come to be referred to as Courvoisier backgrounds. The framed piece measures 25" x 24" with the area inside the matte measuring 10" x 14". I believe this to be a publicity cel prepared especially by The Disney Studios for sale at the Courvoisier Gallery.
