Description: Item # 5709. A Viennese Austrian Enamel Mandolin Box with clock signed Meuron & Co . Size: 10.5” long and 2.5” deep. Vienna, Austria became renown as a manufacturing center for enamel ware including the example pictured here. This piece was made in the late 19th century and is set with a small clock that we believe may be 18th century. Purely decorative, this object is a box form and opens to reveal an interior that is enamel paint decorated to compliment the outside of the box. The Clock is marked “Meuron and Co." The dial tells the time and the day of the month. Condition: No issues with the figural / pastoral decorated box; the clock is not operational; the black enamel fret and tuning section of the mandolin, front and back, has considerable enamel losses. There is hall mark: “LP”.
