Description: An American Art Nouveau bronze sculpture "Yawning Tiger" by Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington and cast by Gorham Co. Founders of a yawning and fully outstretched tiger finished in its original patina a top a black belgium marble plinth. The sculpture is signed, "Anna Hyatt" and further impressed, "Gorham CO. O 492" and further impressed #210
Condition Report: excellent with a small chip on the corner of the marble.
Notes: Yawning Tiger demonstrates the realism of Huntington's art in pose, detail, and style. Rather than showing her subject stalking a prey, she has caught the panther in an intimate moment as it stretches in a wide-mouthed yawn with its front legs tautly extended and its tail elegantly arched. Her skill in the lost-wax method of casting bronze is evident in the texture and wrinkles of the animal's fur. Although the scale of the work is small, the work conveys great strength and graceful movement.
