Roman Empire. Hostilian as Caesar (c. 251 AD) Gold Aureus (4.31 grams). NGC VG, Strike: 5/5, Surface: 1/5, Plugged.

Description: Roman Empire. Hostilian as Caesar (c. 251 AD) Gold Aureus (4.31 grams). NGC VG, Strike: 5/5, Surface: 1/5, Plugged. The plug is skillfully executed and lies within the legend at 10:00 on the obverse. Aside from the small area affected by the plug, the legends are complete and the major design elements wonderfully intact. The obverse depicts a bare-headed draped bust of Hostilian; the reverse Hostilian in military attire holding a wand and spear. There is a delicate blush of orange-gold on either side of a slightly wavy planchet. Hostilian was roughly twelve years old when this coin was struck, and shortly thereafter fell victim to the plague that was ravaging the Empire; thus the rarity of this coinage. Considering the extreme rarity of Hostilian aurei, not to mention their typical $25,000-$60,000 price tag, the currently offered coin represents a marvelous opportunity to fill in an otherwise nearly non-collectible portrait into an advanced collection of Roman gold. We note that a clearly inferior holed Hostilian Aureus sold in an October 2014 Geisenner auction for 1600 Euro ($2029 at that time) plus the buyer's fee. Est. $3000.

Bolivia 1808-PTS PJ Gold 8 Escudo. NGC VF30

Description: Bolivia 1808-PTS PJ Gold 8 Escudo. NGC VF30 and containing approximately 27.0 grams of .900 Fine gold. This specimen features pale coppery toning in the devices and a considerable amount of retained mint frost for the grade. Some light random lines are noted, but the overall appearance is more than satisfactory, and our estimate quite reasonable in light of the gold content alone. Est. $1100.

Bolivia Gold 1868PTS FE Onza. NGC XF Details

Description: Bolivia Gold 1868PTS FE Onza. NGC XF Details, Plugged-Repaired-Cleaned. A hole was very skillfully plugged at 12:00, and the planchet is a bit out of round at the upper left obverse. Despite its condition problems, the appearance remains respectable, and the rarity of this coin cannot be disputed. This classic gold rarity is of the utmost importance not only as a one year of type coin, but also due to the fact that this Onza denomination was only produced for a single year. In fact, it can be argued that this Bolivian Onza type/denomination is RARER THAN ANY OTHER NORTH AMERICAN TYPE OR DENOMINATION. Only a 6-7 such pieces are confirmed known. The Mortimer Hammel specimen (NGC MS61) last sold in May 2008 for $60,000 plus the buyer's fee. The specimen offered here last sold at auction for $7637.50 in January 2016. All of the other auction records of which we are aware are a good 25+ years ago! Here is your chance to own a major gold rarity of the highest order. Seize the day or forever regret the opportunity that slipped away. Est. $8250.

France 1855-A Gold 50 Francs. NGC MS64, Wings Gold Sticker.

Description: France 1855-A Gold 50 Francs. NGC MS64, Wings Gold Sticker. An absolutely splendid borderline Gem. Fiery orange-golden semi-reflectivity complements needle-sharp legends and design elements. The surfaces likewise, are wonderfully smooth. We certainly recommend close scrutiny of this coin for any upgrade potential, as this example is of premium quality and NGC has graded only two such coins higher than this piece (both graded MS65).
