Great modern form with continuous arm to leg design. Very Rare Vintage Modern Classic design Brass Cantilever Heavy weight, comfortable "spring" suspension, an icon of 20th-century design, is celebrated for its lean profile, clean lines and meticulous attention to detail. A Classic design in the Bauhaus style. Clear shapes in combination with curved lines give the cantilever chair elegant form and function. Designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1930 for his renowned Tugendhat House in Brno, Czech Republic, the Brno Chair reflects the groundbreaking simplicity of its original environment. The chair, an icon of 20th-century design, is celebrated for its lean profile, clean lines and meticulous attention to detail. The Tugendhat House, often considered to be Mies van der Rohe’s defining residential work, is the summation of his ideas incorporated at every level of the design. Architectural historian Peter Blake explains in his book Master Builders: “As in every one of his designs, from skyscrapers to dining chairs, Mies reduces each object to its essential elements, and then refined each detail to a point of almost breathtaking beauty and eloquence. There was nothing in this house that did not reflect this process of distillation to the point of utter perfection; not a window mullion, not a heating pipe, not a lighting fixture, not an ashtray.” While there were 24 Tubular Brno Chairs in the Tugendhat House, there was only one Flat Bar Brno chair in a master bedroom (Grete Tugendhat). Unlike the tubular version, the design was not subsequently put into production. In 1958, Phillip Johnson requested that Knoll produce the flat bar Brno Chair for use in his design of the Four Seasons restaurant. After making a few slight adjustments, including added cushioning (all with the approval of Mies); Knoll reintroduced the chair in 1958. The company continues to produce each chair to Mies’ exacting standards, thanks to a collaboration with the Mies van der Rohe Archives at The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Cao Yong

Description: Cao Yong inWinds Of Lovein Giclee On Canvas Artist Proof Giclee On Canvas The Romantic Garden Series image size (31in tall x 18.5in wide) Limited edition of 350 signed and numbered. inWinds Of Lovein is a limited edition produced by the artist comes with a certificate of limitation and authenticity which affirms that this artwork is an authentic limited-edition produced from Cao Yong this limited-edition is signed and numbered by the artist hand textured- hand embellished. In 1962, Cao Yong was born into hardship in China. During the Cultural Revolution, his family was singled out for harsh treatment by the authorities because of their previously distinguished background. While other young children his age started kindergarten, little Cao Yong began working; at age five, he found himself ferrying heavy baskets of gravel at a construction site. One day a rock pit caved in, nearly crushing the tiny boy to death under the rubble. Luckily, he survived. It was through drawing that Cao Yong found peace and consolation in those difficult years. At age eleven, he began studying with a noted artist from Beijing. In order to buy art supplies, he often pawned his clothes and skipped meals. Yet it wasn’t just poverty that Cao Yong had to contend against; discrimination from his community dogged the young artist daily. But Cao Yong continued to paint with remarkable persistence. At age sixteen, he took the highly competitive National Entrance Exam of Art Universities, scoring the highest marks in five provinces. Still, all the universities rejected him because of his family background. A year later, he took the exam again and was finally admitted to Henan University. Always an outcast in the ideology-dominated environment, Cao Yong had to face constant persecution even as a university student; nonetheless, he excelled in his art classes and received his BFA in 1983. After graduation, Cao Yong became the youngest art professor at Tibet University. During his seven years in Tibet, he immersed himself in the spare beauty and distinctive culture of the isolated highlands. To study the prehistoric cave paintings of Tibet, Cao Yong--accompanied only by a horse, a dog, and a gun for hunting--lived alone in deserted mountain caves for nearly a year. Cao Yong’s now-legendary experience in Tibet resulted in a remarkable series of paintings, which was exhibited at his first one-man show in Beijing in early 1989. The exhibit was an instant success, and the event was covered by major international news agencies from Asia, Europe, and North America. However, this celebrated art show alarmed the Chinese authorities. Beijing police confiscated and burned seven of Cao Yong’s paintings, and then arrested him. But Cao Yong managed to escape. With his fiancee Aya Goda, a Japanese art student, he set off on a perilous eight-month journey as a fugitive. Finally, with the help of the Japanese Embassy, the couple escaped to Japan. This journey was described by Aya Goda in her book Escape. Published in Japan in 1995 by Bungeishunjuu Publishing, Escape was awarded the Grand Prize for Non-Fiction from Kodansha Book Publishers, Japan’s most prestigious book award. Cao Yong began his life in Japan by working as a gravedigger and taking small painting commissions. But soon his talents attracted much larger commissions, in the form of several enormous murals. Within a few years, Cao Yong was recognized as the nation’s most honored muralist; his murals adorned stylish commercial buildings, high-class department stores, and even ceremonial sites throughout Japan. Meanwhile, Cao Yong continued to work passionately on his Tibet paintings, creating a body of his finest work then to date. Exhibited in Tokyo’s prominent museums and art galleries, Cao Yong’s art electrified the nation’s art world, and he was extolled by the Japanese press as inan artistic genius of our time.in In 1994, searching for tougher challenges and a bigger stage, Cao Yong immigrated to the United States. Inspired by the free-spirited American people and the diverse and energetic society, the artist began what was soon to become his most prolific outpouring of work, vividly reflecting his newest experiences and emotions. Collectors zealously welcomed, and continue to welcome, Cao Yong’s new art. In 1999, he established his art publishing company Cao Yong Editions, Inc. In a little over two years, Cao Yong has become one of the most collected living artists in America. Nearly two hundred galleries nationwide have joined Cao Yong’s dealership, and his distribution network is now expanding into the Japanese, Canadian, and European markets. Although audiences around the world respond with standing ovations to Cao Yong’s remarkable work, the artist remains raptly focused upon perfecting his art. To Cao Yong, there is no greater reward than being able to share with others his innermost feelings through his work.

Original French Art Deco Period Poster by Paul Colin 1928

Ships From: Timonium, MD US

Description: This is an original French Art Deco Period advertising poster 'Marguerite Valmond' by Paul Colin printed by H. Chachoin. Made famous in 1928, spectacular and exquisitely made. This large colored lithograph features a detailed, chanteuse in a wistful mood. Among the most elusive of Colin's portraits of performers, this is also one of his best-a sensitive study. The poster was run off with the name misspelled inValmontin; instead of reprinting it, Chachoin ran off a quantity of inDins and pasted them on. The color is slightly mismatched-the interest value only enhanced. Here, the poster is offered with inD,in. This is a magnificent large, French Art Deco period poster by the artist Paul Colin who worked for over forty years in the theatre, creating not only posters but also numerous sets and costumes. Artist Biography Paul Colin was one of France?s greatest poster artists, best known for creating over 1,400 posters for the Revue N?gre, as well as numerous sets and costumes. A student of Eug?ne Vallin and of Victor Prouv?, he is considered a master of the modern school of poster art. His style is highly personal and impossible to categorize. The evocative force of his posters for grand causes marks him as a master of visual communication and his work remains relevant and fresh today. Paul Colin was born in 1892 in Nancy, France. As a teenager, Paul Colin apprenticed at a printing house before enrolling at L??cole des Beaux-Arts, and he would later work in the company of Eug?ne Vallin. He was commended for his masterful integration of organic and figural subjects with geometric forms. His style, which was influenced by both Cubism and Surrealism, frequently employed bold shapes, striking colours, caricature, and highly stylised forms. When still an aspiring artist, Paul Colin was commissioned by a friend at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees to design a poster publicizing La Revue N?gre, starring Josephine Baker. Josephine Baker accepted Colin's invitation to come to his studio to pose for the poster. Paul Colin and Josephine Baker became lovers and life-long friends. Their relationship was fortuitous for both, leading to a very successful artistic career for Colin, and introducing Baker through Colin to Paris' artistic elite. Colin also designed some film sets in the 1930s, including for Fritz Lang's Carnet le Bal (1937). Paul Colin died in 1985 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Condition Report: Excellent. This is a lithograph in color printed on paper professional framed. It is very good condition as seen in the detail images.
